Notes on “The subtle art of not giving a F*ck”

The book “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck” is a New York Times Bestseller was written by Mark Manson,  an American self-help author, blogger and entrepreneur.

These are some of my notes from the book that I didn’t finish. The book is fun to read, has some good stories but I felt the book had a lot of negativity in and at some point I was “encouraged” by the author to stop reading it!

The problem with problems...

First, everybody has problems, some people have big problems, some have small problems, some problems are solvable and others aren’t.

Second, everybody is unhappy! Why? Because everybody has problems and true happiness only comes from solving those problems. But solving problems brings more problems, or different ones, and will lead to unhappiness!

So what can you do about it? The thing you can do is not give a fuck about the problem itself, you need to solve it but keep in mind that will lead to a new problem! Solving it will make you happy for sure, and hold on to that happy feeling while it last because you know that something bad is around the corner waiting. When it hits you, deal with it!

The problem with success...

Everyone wants to succeed, but no one wants to take the road of pain it gets you there! No one wants to deal with all the obstacles and problems that may occur in the way. And for those who succeed, don’t think you’re special or deserve special treatment for being successful! The same applies to those who seem to attract bad luck and all kinds of problems, you don’t deserve special treatment either. The truth is that if you have a problem chances are that millions of other people have also had, are having or will have in the future, the exact same problem!

But, in a world where you can’t be a loser or a winner, what can you be? An average person? Well, seems that’s also a bad thing because average people are ok with being average. Being average is a lot better than being miserable, and most of them won’t do anything to improve and be successful!

In case of rejection, of being dumped or fired, don’t suffer about it, grab that feeling and do something good with it! Fuck those who don’t believe in you! Prove them wrong and achieve something great! But don’t hold too much to that feeling because if you don’t succeed you might end up feeling miserable! We shouldn’t measure our success by comparing us to others, we should measure it by defining goals and values that are important to us!

Stop caring about what others think about yourself and think more about the things that make you feel good. Spend time with your friends and family, read a good book or to enjoy the sunset with someone you love! At the end of the day, if you review it and makes you smile, it was a good day for sure!

Choices and my choice...

Life is made of choices, you have to choose the things you don’t give a fuck or you might not give a fuck about anything, but that still your choice.

“You are choosing to accept or reject the concepts. It may be my fault that you think my ideas are lame, but you are responsible for choosing to read it (or not).”Mark Manson

And by reading this, I decided not to read the book anymore! I’ve once read, or heard someone that you shouldn’t spend more than an hour reading a book. If that book didn’t grab your attention in that first hour stop reading it! And that makes some sense because that’s how a story should be, it should catch your attention in the beginning, develop it in the middle and end with a bang!

I’ve read half the book, and one day I can finish it, but for now, it didn’t grab my attention.

Note on my notes:
These are some notes I’ve taken from the book and serve as a quick summary for me to remember what the book was about! If you want to have an formed opinion about the book you should read it! Has I’ve said, it’s fun to read!
